Baby constipation can break your heart

Today was the 3rd of my little girl having constipation. My daughter was in pain whenever she tried to push and be crying. With all the hard work she could only get a little bit out. My husband and I researched online for some quick home remedies. A lot of sites and mothers from forums suggested prune juice. In the morning, my husband went to buy prune juice and some prunes before heading out to work. I mixed 10ml of prune juice with 20ml of water. My daughter only drank a little where I fed her with a spoon. While she took her nap, I prepared for prune puree. Woah they are so soured and watery. When she woke up a few her a few spoons of prune puree worried the sourness be too much for her stomach. I used a very small spoon for feeding. Then I tried go get her to drink a little bit more of the prune juice.

In the afternoon, she was still in pain but  after 3 more nappy change (small amount each time) she seems to have pushed out all the hard bits. At night she did a big poo and not as hard anymore!!

For my little girl, prune juice and prune puree seems to do the trick! Although I fed her more pear for dinner last night and a bit this morning. Maybe the mixed work wonder for my girl. I am going to continue to feed her prune puree (mixed with other fruit like pear and apricot) until we are sure things are back in business. Seeing her in pain so much isn’t a good experience but this is the risk when baby starts solid. At least we now  know to keep her bowel moving with prune!! Sorry if this post grossed you out. I had a grosser version in my mind but I thought to skip over the poopy details. Lol.

Mango and steamed egg for baby

In terms of feeding today is quite exciting. We fridge some mango and decided to let our daughter tried a little today to cool down from the heat. I think she liked it although she didn’t finish the full proportion that we have prepared for her. Baby can’t eat too much mango at once since they might react to it and have rash on their face. So far, no red dots on my baby’s face. We shouldn’t try two new things at once but in the afternoon my husband made steamed egg (mixed egg with milk, steam in a pot with hot water for 6 mins). We need to be sure the egg is cooked fully since she can’t have raw eggs. We also put in the fridge to cool it off before offering it to her for lunch. The steamed egg wasn’t as smooth as hope so I mashed it up to small lumps before feeding. My daughter seems to like it since she ate all of what I have offered. Yay! We have next two days’ lunch sorted, steamed egg it is.

I also want to try broccoli and baby carrots. For dinner we might start to make her fish congee (congee is like rice porridge and very common for Asian countries to feed to their babies) then slowly introduce blended chicken, beef and lastly pork. To be honest, my daughter started to feed on less on her own during the day. She might even cry when I try to feed her some more due to hot weather but she feeds more attention night to get back to sleep. I know I know she is using me for comfort. Do I really want to deny her this bonding time where it will probably be over in 2 years? It is very little time compare to all the years ahead for my little girl. Anyhoo, I need to get some watermelon soon for the hot weather soon.

Ideas for baby food recipe?

We went to the maternal nurse yesterday and my daughter is growing well. She is now 8kg with average height lol so still a little on the heavy side. The maternal nurse we can start my daughter on 3 solid meals a day and by 9 months she should be sitting on high chair having finger food. I don’t see there will be a problem with finger food since I already gave her a spoon to teach her to feed herself. Of course not that she can scoop food off a bowl, I put some food onto the spoon and she will put it into her mouth.¬† This is how I tricked her into eating some carrot puree mixed with rice cereal. If she doesn’t like certain food she won’t let me feed her and sometimes she will even pull away her own spoon to not have any at all. I need to think of what to make and feed her. In the morning I tried oats with prune (one that comes in a packet) and she doesn’t really like it. She only had a couple of spoon and no more. My daughter will cry if I tried to feed her more of what she doesn’t enjoy. Oh well, I will try again in a couple of weeks. This afternoon I fed her some banana. Since I can’t feed her too much I thought to give her a bit of avocado to try again. My daughter already cry after I fed her the first spoon. Oh well, no avocado for her for a couple or weeks as well. She enjoyed rice cereal but can’t have that every meal. We don’t have apple or pear at home. My friend suggested to fridge the puree before feeding because the weather is so hot and it can cool down their body temperature. She say can be down with banana too so I might give that a go tomorrow. Oh she suggested mango too but only very small amount as baby can react to it. I missed mango so I guess Two spoons for her then two spoons for me hehehe.

For tomorrow I am thinking of doing steamed egg for lunch since it has smooth texture and can let her try egg. I wonder if she is going to like it. I need more ideas!!

Banana helps with pooping?

This is going to gross you out but my daughter pooped while we were changing her nappy this morning. It stinks since it’s been in her system for a day or so!!! She’s pooping more solid poo now so at least it won’t projectile everywhere if she poops when I change her. It’s a big one and then not long after she did another big poop in the car. She hasn’t been pooping much for the last two days and I assumed it’s to do with the sweet potatoes she had. My friend told me banana helps with pooping but only needs to give a small amount like the size of the first section of your little finger. If you give babies more than that it might cause constipation instead.

We didn’t have time to give her solid for lunch today so couldn’t try out the banana theory again. I might try that again tomorrow to see if it helps with pooping.¬†Since I’ve started to experiment with solid, I’m worry my girl will have constipation so better do something to help with pooping haha.

No potatoes

It’s been a month since I gave my girl mashed potatoes so decided to try again. I’ve learnt from my mistake and made it more runny this time. Still nope. She doesn’t like it! She cries when I fed her potatoes while no problem eating banana. How can she not like potatoes? I love eating mashed potatoes. I’ll need to wait for another month before trying again. Tomorrow, we’ll go back to apple and banana.
