Sleep training day 91

I wonder if my daughter is experiencing separation anxiety at night time. She seems like to sleep on top of me and be awake when I tried to roll her to bed. Last night she woke up still quite a lot but did one longish stretch. I knew because I got her to bed after I fed her, she slept next to me until 6am so sort of a 3hrs stretch. That’s an improvement somewhat.

Today, her two naps were good. Both over an hour again and less fussy as yesterday. Actually, she did fuss a little before dinner.

Tonight, I failed to get her to cot and she ended up being fully awake. I tried letting her play before feeding again. I fed on her cot but she won’t go to sleep. Drowsy but fully awake. I didn’t want to let her play anymore so carried her to the other room to walk her to sleep. It took a while and she ended up sleeping after being awake for 5hrs! She has woken up 3 times already and sleeping on top of me right me (she is getting heavy). Let’s see if she can do another long stretch and I won’t feed until past 1am because she got fed twice before sleeping. I can nearly keep my eyes open, going to sleep now. Good night!

Sleep training day 89 and 90

Last night was very tiring. My daughter woke up a lot and did not want to be put down to cot or to bed. It’s a vicious cycle of letting her to sleep on top of me and then wakes up shortly. I wish this phase be over soon. The night before was the same. I ended up feeding three times instead of two because she was so unsettled to be put to bed and cried as being uncomfortable. I wonder if she is feeling unwell with tummy issue. Yesterday with her first nap, she napped for 45mins and then woke up crying. She vomited some yogurt onto my arm and fussed. I gave her a feed and she went back to sleep for 1hr 45mins. With second nap, she did another 45mins as well. Then came the tiring night as mentioned already.

Today, she woke up at 7am and absolutely refused to be walked to sleep at 10:20am (I slept through my alarm while in-laws were looking after her, so fed her breakfast and started to walk her later than usual). Every time I walked her she would protested and cried, but smiled once I put her down on play mat to play. It’s very stressful knowing she needs to sleep and we need to go out around 1pm but looking at her happy face made feel loved. She crashed at 11:30am and fell asleep while I walked up the stairs. She only slept for 48mins though and woke up very cranky and clingy. She cried and fussed, even after I gave her a feed. In the car on the way to the baby expo, she cried ALL THE WAY. She won’t stop crying, no matter what toys and things I gave her. Her crying only stopped after we arrived the car park and was able to take her out of the car. She slept for 30mins while we walked around at the baby expo. She was calmed and happy. Once we got her back to the car she started crying again. I tried rubbing her head along to the side of her temple and patted her chest. Magically she stopped crying and started to fall asleep. She slept through the rest of the car ride (that’s 38mins).

Tonight, despite she woke up late from her nap she already fussed to sleep before 9pm. I gave her a feed and she fell asleep quickly. She might be unwell but still unsettled enough to sleep long. So far, she has woken up three times. Nope, fourth, just woke up as I’m typing this.Got to go and wish me luck.

Sleep training day 88

It has been a week since I started 2 feeds overnight rule. Last night my daughter woke often. It is almost like back to hourly. However I wasn’t feeling too tired in the morning. I guessed it didn’t take long to walk her back to sleep, only if she could stay asleep for longer. Stop timing her sleep duration makes me less frustrated. I still do a little timing just so I know when she wakes up in the morning, for knowing when to get her to nap.

Today, her naps were OK. First one was less than an hour and second one she woke and I walked her back to sleep overall for second nap is over an hour.

Tonight, we got her to bed around 8.30pm. Let’s hope she can stay asleep until after 12am for her first feed. Maybe I need go be like my friend to buy a swing so I can have a magic moment of her sleeping through the night.

Sleep training day 86 and 87

Well, nothing much has changed for the last two days and nights. Still waking up every couple of hours or less but sticking with feeding twice overnight. I found my daughter is more clingy and easier to be awake after 5am. She likes to sleep on me but can only sleep for a short period of time, then I need to sit up and she would falls back asleep sometimes.

Naps have been good except for today. Two shortish naps, 30 mins and 45 mins. I have stretched her wake time before bed tonight. Let’s hope it doesn’t affect her too much. Fingers crossed she will start to have longer stretch knowing she won’t get a feed any time soon!

Sleep training day 85

Last night is finally a better night where I only woke up 3 or 4 times overnight before my daughter started her day at 7.30am. It wasn’t too bad comparing to previous nights.

Today, my daughter’s naps were OK. First nap she had at home for a bit over an hour. We set up a pool at my parents for my daughter and her play dates to play since it was 40 degree! I thought this will make her more tired for second nap but nope, she only slept for 43mins.

Tonight, her first stretch although not that long but it is already better than before. It is not less than an hour! I have walked her back to sleep instead of feeding since I want to stretch it further if possible to see if it will help to stretch her sleep. Let’s hope tonight will be another good night.

Sleep training day 84

Comparatively last night might be better than 3 nights ago because with second half of my daughter’s sleep she woke up every hour instead of 30mins or so. It was still tough though where I needed to feed her around midnight instead lasting till 1am for her first feed. Then another around 3.55am. Luckily the rest was able to walk and sing her back to sleep.

Today, her two naps are over an hour for both. She got easier to be put to cot after walked her to sleep. I do not want to relive the days where she cries everytime I put her to cot.

Tonight, it seems she needs to be up for 4hrs before bed. How fast they are growing!? I tried before 9pm, despite her tired signs she did not want to sleep. I tried 15mins later and she fell asleep. Is she tired enough to crash through the night yet? I know I am! This afternoon I do not want to wake up from my nap if it wasn’t time to make my daughter dinner. Tonight will be 4th night doing 2 feeds overnight. Please show me some improvement or else I am not sure why I am doing this.

Sleep training day 82 and 83

The last two nights’ night wakings were like nightmare. I lost count how many times I needed to get up and walked her back to sleep so I can keep my two feeds overnight goal. It was tiring but I made it for two nights. Naps are the same with around the hour mark. Nothing much changed apart trying to just do two feeds. My daughter has been gassy though, farting a lot in the last few days.

Today her first nap was good, over an hour but second nap was 40mins. I got her to bed before 8pm tonight because she was fussing already. I changed her nappy,  quickly read two books and gave her a feed. It took me a couple of tries to get her back to cot because I need to go back down stairs to have dinner. Since then till now she woke up 4 times already and I did a feed when she won’t settled down. I was just about to shower as well. The tired nights make me less patient to my daughter’s crying. I lost my temper when I was walking because she cried and kept leaning to one side wanting to turn around to face the front. Sigh. Last night I only gotten a few hours of sleep because it one point she kept waking when I get back to bed. It took me an hour to get her to sleep properly. My eyes are dopey sad typing this. I better get some sleep since I don’t know how many more times I need to walk tonight. Need to find my cool again.

Sleep training day 81

I have met a wonderful maternal nurse today when we brought our daughter for her 8 months check up. Lucy understands our difficulties. I asked about sleep school but gave up after I found out they use control crying. Lucy said it is ok to feed to sleep, ideally we should put baby to cot awake but a lot of people just feed to sleep. OMG! This is what I have been longing to hear! Someone to tell me that it is ok to what I have been doing. However I should only do 4 to 5 feeds on a 24hrs period where solids are her main food. She even wrote me a schedule which it is ok to feed and put my daughter to sleep. Over night I should only do 1 or 2. Also in theory that babies at 8 months should sleep overnight but they normally do 6hrs stretch. Now I just need to work toward this 6hrs. For tonight I will toughen up to spread my feed to two overnight, other time I need to walk her back to sleep. Let’s hope I can stay strong! Do I need to say more about last night? It’s same old same old.

Today my daughter has two good naps both over an hour long. Both time I got her to sleep within 20mins which isn’t bad really.

Tonight she showed tired signs early so I tried to feed her go sleep before 3hrs. Nope! She doesn’t want to sleep yet and actually bit me! I ended up walking her to sleep which I failed to put her to cot she first go. The second time I climbed into cot to get her down gently. Oh I am also using the Fisher Price cuddle soother where it comes with night light and white noise/melody (I think I mentioned this in an earlier post) and play the white noise. So far it seems OK. She has been sleeping over an hour and this is already a good sign. Let my daughter catch up on her sleep!

Sleep training day 80

Last night my daughter only gave me one long stretch of 2.5hrs. I know I said I won’t record the time anymore but I used the white noise machine to time it. It auto stop every 30mins. After that it was pretty much every 1hr 40mins according to my feeding time. Oh forgot to mention that she woke up at midnight and then won’t sleep for almost 2hrs. I fed her to sleep and she got all energise after I got her to cot. I didn’t want to feed her again to I walked her back to sleep when she had been up for too long! How can she be playing in the dark for so long? She kept pulling herself up to stand in her cot.

Today, she had good naps. Her first nap was less than an hour but with her second nap she slept for an hour. I fed her in bed and got her back to sleep for almost another hour. I fed her more rice cereal as well. Would that make of a good night? I don’t think so because she just woke up as I am typing this. I got her to sleep before 9pm although she woke at 6pm. This is the second time she woke. Sigh. Another tough night I guess.
